It seems that, after the “different experiment” of his previous album, Mariusz Duda is almost back on track. And I say “almost” because in “Shrine Of New Generation Slaves” we find evident resemblances to the nearly festive vitality of some compositions in “Anno Domini High Definition”, apart from a more noticeable influence of symphonic and not-so-symphonic rock of the 60s and the 70s in some parts of the recording.
But it is also true than the essential elements known by the band's long-term fans command most of the music. With them and with the forementioned “changes”, the polish quartet have reached a perfect point of equilibrium to evolve a sound which, now, seems well on track. The single, powerful and “new-shaped” is, undoubtely, “Celebrity Touch”, a song as well done as always, but tracks like “The Depth Of The Self” , “We Got Used To Us”, or even “Feel Like Falling” could have belonged to the “older” version of the band. A rediscovered and wisely reinterpreted path I hope it is as satisfactory to the musicians and -both the new and the old- the fans as much as it has been as satisfactory to me. |
