This time, it has been harder to me, but, in the end, it has happened again: Gojira's last album is, again, big, maybe less straight than their two previous masterpieces but, after several listenings, equally effective.
It's not easy to imagine a sequel of “From Mars To Sirius” and “The Way Of All Flesh”, even more when each one of them is pure innovation within their genre. Because of this -and considering a logical expectation when thinking of people of their talent- it couldn't be taken for granted they were going to release their third succesive creative bomb, because musicians -even if some of them can make us doubt about it sometimes- are not Gods. Indeed, Gojira aren't Gods but very talented musicians full of fresh ideas and what they bring us with this Wild Child is a work which is more evolutionary than groundbreaking and where they get deeper and develop an identity mostly built on their two preceding albums: here is anything that must be and at the place it must be; the recording is a shoot and has songs like “Liquid Fire”, “L'enfant Sauvage”, “Mouth Of Kala” or “Born In Winter” -which chorus resembles Pain, this must be said- keeping the band's level as high as we can expect. Now they are on the top, it's time to evolve and last. |
