If ,during the next four or five years, Deftones releases a couple of records like this one, for me, they will move from being a regular band (i've tried to “catch” them in the past, but i was never able to fall in love with their music) to become one of my Gods of Olympus. “Koi No Yokan” is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest jewels in the alternative music scene during the last years: a perfect work, intense and penetrating from the very first to the very last second, with an intoxicating atmosphere built of guitar-created walls of sound which transmits either tension, aggression and romanticism depending on the moment. Each track is an hymn, each song a trip and a story, each composition a world of details. Moreno reaches the highest point playing the vocal role resembling even a “Metallic Robert Smith” during the more passionate and anguishing moments. I'm unable to choose one or even several songs, so i will point some impressions instead: the energy of “Swerve City”, the originality in “Polterheist”, the passion of “Tempest”, the light at “Gauze” and the point of equilibrium of the entire album represented by “Entombed”. Near to its end, the album of the year has arrived. |
